Guildford

A Surrey town that is large, midway between the capital and Portsmouth on the A3 trunk road, southwest of London by (43 km) 27 miles is Guildford (/ˈɡɪlfərd/), England. To the gap existence in the North Downs where by the Harrow Way the River Wey was forded, Guildford has Saxon roots and historians attribute its location. May be Roman are some of the Guildford Castle built tiles, and just west of Guildford's Park Barn neighbourhood, on Broad Street Common a Roman villa has been found at Roman Farm Road's end.

Acts were passed in 1846 from Guildford for making two railways: one to Alton and Farnham and the other leading to Godalming; and an act in the same year for a railway from Reading, via Guildford, to Reigate and Dorking was obtained. Has no presence that is administrative in Guildford but is in Kingston upon Thames' central, which became in the 1960s part of Greater London, though the cite above claims as the town of the county, Guildford, is Surrey County Council.

The Royal Grammar School is the best-known school in Guildford itself. In Guildford, is the campus of the University of Surrey. Contains the Stoke historic manor and Stoke Park at its centre, now the location of Guildford College, is the central northern area of the town. The mixed land use area that is small to Guildford's north that from Bellfields is largely indeterminate is Slyfield, however, Slyfield Industrial Estate, Guildford's largest industrial and commercial park is to its east. A suburb that is mainly residential north of Guildford town centre is Stoughton.

In a 17th-century Grade I listed town house which is run by Guildford Borough Council, Guildford in the High Street has Guildford House Gallery, an art gallery. Guildford collection housing archaeology, local history and needlework displays, is also run by the Borough Council. Founded in 1927, was the Church of England Diocese of Guildford and in 1961, Guildford Cathedral was consecrated.

At the Woodbridge Road ground, Guildford Cricket Club plays their home matches. Queen Eleanor's C of E, Northmead Junior, and Bushy Hill are amongst the junior schools. Guildford County School, George Abbot, Christ's College, King's College, and St Peter's are included in secondary schools. In Carry On Sergeant, which at the Queens Barracks that are former was filmed, and a scene from which at Guildford Cathedral was filmed, The Omen, Guildford has been captured on film.
